Pupils at our school had an exciting opportunity today as we welcomed Wing, a representative from the Lancaster University School of Mathematics, who joined us on site to conduct interviews with our Year 11 applicants.
The visit formed part of the admissions process for our local specialist maths college, giving students a valuable chance to experience a formal academic interview in a supportive environment. Throughout the day, pupils demonstrated maturity, confidence, and a genuine passion for mathematics as they discussed their interests, problem‑solving approaches, and aspirations for further study.
Staff who observed the sessions praised the professionalism and enthusiasm shown by all involved. Many pupils commented that the experience helped them better understand what to expect from future academic interviews and boosted their confidence in pursuing STEM pathways.
We are delighted to share that every student left their interview with an offer of a place at the specialist maths college — a fantastic achievement that reflects their hard work and dedication.
We extend our sincere thanks to Wing and the Lancaster University School of Mathematics for giving our pupils such a valuable and inspiring opportunity. Their support helps strengthen the link between our school and one of the region’s leading centres for mathematical education, opening doors for our young people as they take their next steps.
