GCSE Options: Health & Social Care, ICT and Drama
Post 16 Education: Preston College and University of Central Lancashire
Where are you now? After studying performing arts at Preston College and Music Theatre at UCLan, today, I am proud to run my own performing arts academy, where I have the privilege of helping children and young people grow in confidence, develop their talents and believe in themselves. Turning my passion for the performing arts into a successful career has been incredibly rewarding, and I am grateful for the lessons and experiences I gained at Brownedge St Mary's that helped make this possible.
Looking back, the skills I developed during my time at school played a significant role in helping me achieve my dream career. Drama helped me build confidence, creativity and communication skills, while ICT gave me valuable knowledge in organisation, technology and business administration. Health & Social Care developed my understanding of working with and supporting people which is an essential skill when inspiring and mentoring young performers today. These subjects, alongside the encouragement and opportunities provided by the school, helped lay the foundations for my future.
Advice for current students: Embrace every opportunity, work hard and believe in yourself. The skills you learn at school may open doors you never expected and could one day help you achieve your own dreams!

I attended Brownedge St. Mary's High School from 2002-2007 where I took History, PE, Technology and German for my GCSEs as well as English, Maths, RE and Science. I left Brownedge going to go to study A Levels at Newman College - at this point I picked the subjects I loved as I wasn't really sure what I wanted to do! I did A Levels in History and English Literature, Sport and Dance. I had now decided I wanted to be a teacher but needed to make the decision between History or PE!
I decided I wanted to persue my interest in History and was accepted to do a BA History degree at the University of Liverpool which I started in September 2009. During my third year at university, still knowing I wanted to be a teacher I did some volunteering in a number of secondary schools to check it was something I wanted to do as a career!
After university I decided to take a year out of education to go travelling - I travelled around India, Thailand, China, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and America, having the most amazing experiences, which also included volunteering in a primary school in India, a secondary school in Thailand and China - I also worked for a few months as a Nanny for a family in the outback of Australia.
On my return home, I got the job as a Teaching Assistant at Brownedge where I continued to get invaluable experience to prepare me to apply for my PGCE. September 2014 I started my teaching training year with the Schools Direct programme linked with the University of Cumbria. By July 2015 I had started working at Brownedge St. Mary's as a Teacher of History. By April 2017 I had become Head of History, which is a job I love and enjoy doing!

In 2024, Daniel visited Leyland Trucks on a school visit, curious about how vehicles are built on production lines.
That curiosity brought him back for work experience, where he showed real interest and potential.
Today, Daniel is part of Leyland Trucks' team as an Assembly Operator Apprentice in Vehicle Assembly. Having aced his last review, he got glowing feedback, showing him working above expectations.
When we returned for another school trip in 2026, our teachers and students spotted Daniel — this time as a member of the workforce! A great full circle moment for him and the school.
Well done to Daniel on everything he’s achieved so far.
