Brownedge St Mary’s was transformed into a celebration of stories last week as the school marked its annual World Book Day festivities. The much‑loved event once again brought students and staff together for a full programme of reading‑themed activities designed to spark imagination and promote a love of literature across all year groups.
Classrooms buzzed with energy as pupils took part in shared reading sessions, while teachers incorporated literary themes into lessons throughout the day, giving students the chance to explore new genres, discover unfamiliar authors, and discuss the books that have shaped their own reading journeys.
One of the highlights—now a firmly established Brownedge tradition—was the Year 11 costume parade. As always, the oldest students in the school embraced the occasion with enthusiasm, arriving dressed as iconic characters from classic novels, modern favourites, and everything in between. From wizards and detectives to dystopian heroes and fairy‑tale figures, the corridors were filled with colour and creativity as students showcased both their costumes and their passion for reading.
Staff members joined in the fun too, adding an extra layer of excitement as pupils tried to guess which characters their teachers had chosen to embody. The sense of community spirit was clear throughout the day, with students of all ages celebrating the joy that books bring to school life.
World Book Day continues to be a cherished event at Brownedge, reminding everyone of the power of stories to inspire, entertain, and connect us. With another successful celebration complete, the school now looks forward to building on this enthusiasm through reading initiatives planned for the rest of the year.
