Reading Leaders at Brownedge St Mary’s Catholic High School

At Brownedge St Mary’s Catholic High School we see Leadership and Mentoring opportunities as great ways for students to build their confidence and skills. Our Reading Leaders are pupils in a position of responsibility - leaders,  role models, pupils who always try hard to uphold our Gospel Values of Hope, Kindness, Courage, Justice and Patience.

Our Reading Leaders perform duties such as assisting and supporting our Key Stage Three readers; presenting in assemblies; supporting in Scholastic Book Fayres and author visits; judging reading competitions and supporting the Senior Leadership Team and Mrs Tilling with key reading events such as World Book Day.

Our Reading Leaders understand that reading has a purpose, that it is an important life skill that will be used long after their education at Brownedge St Mary’s has finished. Leaders understand their role in supporting pupils in developing their fluency, comprehension, and accuracy in reading and how this will serve them well and improve their life chances.
