In the final week of this half-term, pupils from Years 7, 8, and 9 embarked on an exciting educational journey to London, following in the footsteps of Year 10’s earlier visit to Parliament. The trip offered a unique opportunity for younger students to immerse themselves in the heart of British democracy and explore some of the capital’s most iconic landmarks.
The day began with a guided tour of the Houses of Parliament, where pupils walked through the historic corridors of power, learning about the rich traditions and workings of the UK’s political system.
A highlight of the visit was a hands-on workshop focused on petitions and civic engagement. Pupils were encouraged to think critically about issues that matter to them and learned how citizens can influence change through democratic processes. The session sparked lively discussions and gave students practical tools to become active participants in their communities.
The group also enjoyed a sightseeing tour around central London, and adding a personal touch to the day, pupils had the chance to meet with their local Member of Parliament, Maya Ellis. Ms. Ellis spoke passionately about her role in representing the community and answered questions from the students about her work, current issues in Parliament, and the importance of youth voices in shaping the future.
The visit not only deepened pupils’ understanding of British politics and history but also ignited a sense of civic pride and responsibility.
With experiences like these, the school continues to foster a generation of informed, empowered, and engaged young citizens ready to shape the future.
