We are delighted that you are considering Brownedge St Mary’s Catholic High School for the next stage of your child’s education. It is our privilege to welcome both parents and pupils to our Open Evening, where the important journey toward choosing the right secondary school begins.
If, after seeing our warm and welcoming community, the care we show for every pupil, and the opportunities we offer both in and out of the classroom—or simply based on what you already know about our strong reputation—we would be delighted to receive your application. At Brownedge St Mary’s, we are proud of the supportive, family atmosphere that helps every child feel valued and inspired to achieve their very best, and we look forward to the possibility of welcoming you into our school family.
Applying is simple and follows the local authority admissions process. Parents should complete the online secondary school application form either via Lancashire County Council or use this link.
In addition, you are required to complete our school’s Supplementary Admissions Form, available below, and return it directly to school. Full details of deadlines and guidance can be found on both the council website and our Admissions page, and our staff are always happy to help with any questions along the way.
Year 7 Admissions September 2026
In May 2025, OFSTED maintained Brownedge St Mary's grading as a GOOD school. This outcome is a reflection of the hard work, dedication and shared commitment of our entire school community.
The inspection team truly understood the heart of our school – recognising the inclusive, nurturing environment we work so hard to create and the high aspirations we hold for every pupil. They saw, first-hand, the strong relationships between staff and pupils, the high standards of teaching and support, and the safe, respectful and ambitious culture we foster every day.
We were especially proud of how our pupils conducted themselves throughout the inspection. Their confidence, courtesy, and clear pride in their school shone through. The inspectors were extremely impressed by them, and rightly so!
I would like to highlight just a few extracts from the report:
-
“Pupils and their parents and carers describe Brownedge St Mary’s as a school with a ‘family feel’ where everyone is valued.” - A testament to our warm, nurturing culture and strong community ethos.
-
“Pupils are united in their praise for the school’s inclusive ethos. One pupil reflected the views of many, saying, ‘You don’t have to be afraid to be yourself here.’” – A powerful tribute to our school’s support for individuality and emotional safety.
-
“Pupils, especially those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), achieve well and typically move on to ambitious next steps in further education.” – Highlights our school’s effectiveness in supporting all learners to achieve and aspire.
-
“The school’s work on pupils’ personal development is a tangible strength. A meticulously designed programme of spiritual, moral and cultural opportunities is at the heart of school life.” “The school’s extensive programme of extra-curricular activities is noteworthy.” – Underscores the richness and intentionality of our wider curriculum.
-
“Pupils leave the school as confident individuals, more than ready for their next steps in life.” – A compelling summary of our ultimate impact on our pupils.
Of course, none of this would be possible without the commitment of our dedicated staff, the enthusiasm and resilience of our fantastic pupils, and the ongoing support and vital partnership of our parents and carers.
This positive outcome belongs to all our school community – staff, pupils and families – working together to help every child succeed.
At Brownedge St Mary’s, pastoral care is truly at the heartbeat of our community, woven through a compassionate Catholic ethos that cherishes the dignity of every individual. Our House system lies at the core of this, bringing together students across year groups into supportive family-like units, each guided by a dedicated Head of House and form tutor who mentor and nurture their growth over five formative years. This structure ensures that every pupil is known, supported, and encouraged to flourish—whether through peer mentoring, strong relationships, or having a familiar, caring adult to turn to in every season of their school journey.

Here at Brownedge St Mary’s Catholic High School, Personal Development is at the core of our student’s education, and this is reflected in our school’s values, expectations, culture and ethos. Our intent is to nurture, educate and inspire students so they can be happy, healthy young people who have the academic knowledge and personal character to lead safe and successful lives beyond school.
Specifically, Personal Development at Brownedge seeks to ensure students can protect themselves both on and offline, improve their physical and emotional health, develop character, resilience, and academic potential, and strengthen their leadership attributes.
Our Personal Development curriculum ensures that students are educated in the following areas:
- Relationships and Sex Education
- Physical Health
- Mental Well-Being
- Citizenship
- British Values
- Online Safety
- Careers Information, Education, Advice and Guidance (CIEAG)
- Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development
- Inclusion and Equality of Opportunity
Each of the elements listed above will help, support and contribute to pupils’ behaviour and attitudes. The various strands of our Personal Development curriculum deliver all aspects of the statutory guidance, reflect the needs of our community and the age range to which it is delivered. Personal Development is overseen by the Deputy Headteacher, Assistant Headteacher and Learning for Life Co-Ordinator with engaging, well sequenced and planned lessons.
To ensure a holistic Personal Development curriculum, we supplement the ‘taught’ components with a range of external speakers and a programme of daily collective worship, prayer themes and cultural focus. To help our pupils discover their talents and interests, we provide a plethora of wider opportunities with which our students can engage beyond the classroom through our CASEO and Interhouse programmes, and attendance on trips.
