Our Year 10 students embarked on an enriching and unforgettable educational journey to the very heart of British democracy — the Houses of Parliament in London. The visit formed part of our wider commitment to civic education and was designed to deepen students’ understanding of the democratic institutions that shape our society.

From the moment they arrived in Westminster, students were immersed in the grandeur and significance of one of the UK’s most iconic landmarks. Guided tours took them through the historic corridors of power, including the House of Commons and the House of Lords, where centuries of debate and decision-making have influenced the course of British history. They learned about the evolution of Parliament, the role of MPs and Lords, and how laws are made — all brought vividly to life.

The experience was more than just a sightseeing trip. It was a powerful opportunity to reflect on the core British values that underpin our democracy: the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and the importance of civic participation. Students engaged in discussions about current issues, asked thoughtful questions, and considered how these values are upheld — and sometimes challenged — in today’s world.

In addition to the educational aspects, the day offered a chance to explore the cultural richness of London. Students took in the sights of Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, and the River Thames, gaining a deeper appreciation for the capital’s historical and political significance.

The visit also sparked conversations back at school, with students sharing their insights and reflections in class discussions. Many expressed a newfound interest in politics and public service, and some even spoke of aspirations to one day work in government or law.

As we continue to nurture informed, responsible citizens, experiences like this play a vital role in connecting classroom learning with real-world understanding. We are incredibly proud of our Year 10s for representing the school with such enthusiasm and respect, and we look forward to more opportunities that bring learning to life in meaningful and memorable ways.
